GDD710 - Week 12: FINALE

We made it. Week 12 is here and it has been quite tough. This week we have been asked to do the following:

As a cohort, we have been through a lot together in the last twelve weeks. There have been some great times and sure enough, there have been some hard times. Use this Spark forum to carry out a retrospective about your progress through the module.

You should aim to answer the four core questions:

  1. What did you do well?

  2. What did you learn?

  3. What should you do differently in the next module?

  4. What still puzzles you?

For this exorcise I went away and really thought about the topics covered in this module were and how they made me feel. I then used the Lucid App at https://lucid.app/ to create a chat where I put down my points. I have also attached this to my daily Kanban board where I will use these points and review them daily to take with me into the next module.

Finally, we were also asked to review the next module's work flow as stated here:

To complete this week’s activity, identify which module you will enroll in next by using the table below. Then, carefully review the module documentation which can also be found linked in the table below.

Once you are familiar with the documentation, create a journal entry that summarises your thoughts and speculations about the work you would like to carry out during the next module. Finalise the journal entry by outlining your thoughts about what you would like to do for your Final Project.

I personally am looking forward to doing more collaborative work as I believe there are some very talented people in this cohort. To that end, I also feel like this is an opportunity to learn from one another and share best practices. For the most part I am mainly interested on working on a game rather than an app, so ideally I would like to find like minded individuals who share the same interests. When it comes to roles within this task, I am happy to work on anything. I stated in my journal entry about the second rapid ideation that it could even be in Unity because we could have someone working on the engine side of things whilst others work on models and other aspects. I am not worried about UX members joining us on this journey either as I feel UX can also offer a lot, especially in regards to player experience.

The excerpt that really sticks out to me is as follows, "This will enable you to enrich your project management and collaboration skills, as well as increase your knowledge of how to coordinate between multiple project stakeholders in a distributed multidisciplinary context."

Taking the above activity into account in regards to what I did well, what I could do better, some of these are already aligning with my plans to further develop myself such as the collaborative working ethic and understanding more about the methodologies discussed in GDD710.

Finally, I would ideally like to focus on VR creation. This could either be an app for VR users or a game in that nature. As I mentioned in my "what still puzzles me section" of the activity, I know that technology moves at a fast rate these days. I feel VR is going to be the norm one day, and to think about my career aspirations and goals, I need to move with the times. Focusing on VR will hopefully allow me to continue to create and also expand my own business as VR becomes more widely adopted. Cheaper headsets mean more adoption, but it also means high end VR will require a decent spec PC. I recently purchased the Quest 2 from Oculus and have been impressed with how it handles PC titles relatively easy but also has the ability to connect to a PC and play games using the computers power. This allows for the headset to have a complete 6 degrees of freedom and also stay functional years after release. The CV1 headset is gradually being removed from shelves now as is the Rift S, but I think headsets like Windows based headsets will start taking more of a focus since the price point starts at a reasonable $199.99. Unreal also allows for the native packaging of Window's headsets, so implementing over different headsets should be easy.
